I was watching some guys play one-on-one b-ball on TV when I asked myself, what is it about that game that guys (mostly) seem to enjoy? The more I watched the more I thought, I like watching them play even if I am not sure why they like it. Then I wondered, why? I recalled going to a professional basketball game once in Arizona and I found it boring.
Hmm, I think I figured it out...it's the physical one-on-one contact on the outdoor court that isn't alllowed in the NBA (fouls and such) that makes it more exciting. I then began comparing sports that I like and those I don't. I don't care for soccer, or professional basketball, or baseball, or real wrestling, or tennis, nor watching golf (I would like to learn to play golf).
Anyway, I then thought of sports I like: ice hockey; football; NASCAR and rodeo events. Watching the contact between players or people vs. animals, or the prospect of car crashes (knowing the drivers are safe) is extremely exciting! I think it raises my endorphins like chocolate and I do love chocolate! Speaking of contact sports, I don't care for those in which the sole purpose is to beat the heck out of each other, like boxing, and various other types of one-on-one fighting.
There you have it. If there were less rules in the NBA, and the players could be any size (not mostly tall and skinny), I would likely enjoy it more!
