I must be a prude...can't people be funny without cursing so much???

There are comedians that I have enjoyed watching over the years but I have never understood the need for cursing in so many stand up routines. I know it is possible to make people laugh without it as I recall seeing it in High School drama. We had a number of students that were very funny! Heck my son is hilarious!

Some comedians throw in curses from time to time and I can deal with that. Like Bret Butler who swears but it is so much easier to overlook that part of her routine partially because she is well educated and expresses it in her act well.

One comedian I used to like until I recently watched a taped show of hers on Netflix, which, oddly enough was her show in Portland, OR where I lived at that time. I don't think I laughed once because the F%^& word being used more than anything. I know, if you don't like it, don't watch it, however I kept watching hoping it would get better...it didn't. Maybe next time Kathy Griffin.

There's a celebrity who doesn't curse but tries to make people laugh that I cannot stand for some reason, Regis Philbin. Then on the opposite end of the spectrum with regard to cursing and disrespect, I have always really disliked Don Rickles and Andrew Dice Clay...that's just me.

Based upon recent stand up shows I have watched on Netflix, Jim Gaffigan had me practically rolling on the floor laughing...cursing=little to none! Ellen Degeneres has always cracked me up with no cursing either.

I also watched a stand up comedy show in which of a group of Christian women tried to make people laugh. Only one was really funny and it sounded like, by the audience's reaction, audience members agreed with me. So, you never can tell!
