One actor who overcame his addictions is Robert Downy Jr. and I am so happy to see him in a positive limelight now. I have enjoyed his acting for many years. He conquered his demons and it shows on talk shows now. He seems happy and well adjusted, talking about his teenage son. He smiles a lot and pokes fun at himself and his checkered past. He is also less smug these days. So many young actors that get into addictions end up losing their lives and he has prevailed.
I remember having a crush on Elvis Presley when I was very, very young. I had never seen any of his movies much but I loved seeing him perform on stage when something was shown on TV. His addictions led to his serious weight gain and I cried when I saw a performance showing how obese he had become. Even at my young age I knew it wasn't healthy and I worried that he would die so I vowed never to watch his stage performances again. I continued to listen to my album and I mourned his death. I wish he had overcome his addictions.
I like Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show, formerly Mr. Wick on the Drew Carey Show, as he speaks of the errors of his ways with addictions and overcoming them. He has written a book about it that I may or may not read. He is happily married with a son now and I am happy watching his goofy self late late at night. On another note, he hasn't learned how to settle his audiance down so he can start his show. David Letterman does that much better than Craig as does Ellen Degeneres...why is that?
