Fours days the beginning of May 2010

The last few days have been a bit of a rollar coaster. I spent Friday and Saturday cleaning the house, catching up laundry and dishes, etc. in anticipation of the arrival of my best friend and her daughter due Sunday afternoon. I over did it a bit and awoke the next morning, Sunday, with a Charlie Horse and thought I wouldn't be able to make it to church because the knot in my calf was still throbbing. After massaging my calf awhile I asked a dear friend for a ride to church and she with her husband gave me a lift. When I arrived home after church I tried a home remedy to help with the remaining knot in my calf and I believed it helped.

Later that day my best friend arrived without incident with her daughter and we had a nice visit. She had a job interview the next morning so her daughter and I hung out playing WII games. :-) Anyway, when she came home, they left a little later, arriving home in Bend that evening.

Beforehand however, she dropped me off at my friend Kathy's store, the Mystery Gallery (corner of Oak Grove Blvd. and McLaughlin) and I spent a few hours looking around and waiting for my friend Kathy to come in. I bought a few more things to help my "nesting" urges for the time when my best friend comes to live with me for a little while this summer. Luckily Kathy gave me a ride home with my purchases before she had to relieve her assistant.

Later that evening I was checking Facebook and found a link to Amazon.com regarding free eBooks. I also found out I could download Kindle for a PC and learned that Amazon.com also carries a number of free eBooks for the Kindle.

Then I received a video of a friend whose family escaped the flooding in Nashville, thank the Lord. At first I was unable to open his video but I was given an option to download a free program for viewing it. When I did, it not only ran my friend's video, but it showed that I can use it to download videos from YouTube as well. So, I can listen to some of my music without being connected to the internet.

During all of that my back had and has been bothering me a great deal. It hurt enough this weekend off and on that I decided to call the VA telenurse today. When I explained the issue I was having with a medical provider due to administrative moves made recently and that I didn't know who to see, she spent extra time helping me. She heard what I had to say about my back issues and looked at my record, including x-ray results from my compensation exams last February. Those exams showed that I have degenerative disc disease affecting my spine from my neck down to my lower lumbar. (The last I heard it was only one disk in my lower lumbar). Anyway, she said that I should go into the emergency clinic to get a doctor to look at the area where my back has felt as if a hot poker has been pressed against it recently. She suggested if my pain occurs the most when I am standing at length or walking more than a few blocks, that I might need a walker with a seat. I cried at that thought. I felt like screaming, I am too young to need that kind of help!

Then I realized that using a walker really was no different than walking with my cane or walking stick nor was it that much different than asking for help from a caregiver a few hours a week. The caregiver that I have already spoken to is a friend and she is willing to work with me.

Now, besides those issues I will be receiving help, thanks to the VA, for my left ankle/both feet by a referral to an orthodics specialist next week.

There is the issue of my teeth as well that will be addressed this summer at least. Dentures are in my future. I think that's why I have purchased a few new articles of clothing lately, because I want to look good to spite my body fighting me. :-D

Otherwise I have my health! LOL If we can't laugh about life then what do we have? For me I have my faith in Christ and I am thankful that I have the funds to help myself with these various physical issues.

Oh I shouldn't forget, that I saw a car for sale, a 1991 Ford Taurus, for $850...though I didn't call about it yet and I am not sure I will as I have a hard time knowing when I am being dupped. The sign on the car said that it had just passed DEQ. I love classic cars the most but I don't have the means or ability right now to fix up one.
